HOUSE prices in Edinburgh have fallen by ten per cent in the last year.
But prices in the Capital for January to March this year remain the highest in Scotland at an average of £187,289, according to new figures from Registers of Scotland covering all residential sales.
Edinburgh remains the largest market, with sales of just under £217 million for the first quarter of 2009. This is down 60.9 per cent over the same quarter last year and 43.5 per cent over the previous quarter.
Property sales across Scotland have more than halved over the last year and prices have slumped by almost nine per cent since last autumn, the figures show. The average Scottish price was £140,318.
The number of property sales has also dropped by 57.1 per cent in a year - and 38.7 per cent over the last quarter of 2008. The average house price is now down 6.6 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Detached properties showed the largest fall in price at nine per cent, while terraced properties showed the smallest fall at 4.7 per cent when compared with last year.
